Salt and Pepper Cafe opended in March 2020, just before Covid hit. The cafe was origanally set up by year 8/9 Lewis class and we started at a wonderful local provison, Derby Homes. Derby Homes allowed us to use their building to hold a Community Cafe on Coniston Crescent. We excitely, bought aprons and tea pots and designed a menu with symbols to help us to order! The pupils had 3 weeks of trying various roles such as chef, waiter, post washer and waitress.
Soon after Salt and Pepper Cafe moved to its new location. St Philps Church Hall.
We started cafe training as a small group of post 16 learners in Septmeber 2021 and now amazingly, all of our FE students have experienced a role working in Cafe and up to now we have had over 300 customers! The work based skills we are learning and devolping are going from strength to strength. I am so proud to see indivduals show their abilities in a work based context.
We have set this page up to showcase the fantastic skills our learners are working towards and for the students to see what we are up to each week .
The new SKillsbuilder Programme FE are embedding within the curriculum, enhance the skills, teaching and learning in Salt and Pepper Cafe
